The rich bird life brings the Arctic fox close by and the lush tundra supports numerous reindeer. Nereby we have Norway' only geological reserve, "Festningen" (the Fortress). Being on the coast, you're also in the path of the king of the Arctic - the polar bear.

The ship lays in Tempelfjord with a view towards the Von Post glacier. This is at the centre of the kingdom of Hilmar Nøis, where he did most of his trapping during his 38 winters on Svalbard. The only "boat-in-the-ice- hotel" in the world. Noorderlicht has 10 guest cabins with 2 beds each and there are good facilities on board.
